I've made a lot of strides from where I was over a year ago.
I no longer want for material things. I no longer covet bigger houses or faster cars or fancier vacations or bigger bank accounts.
Truly, I don't.
The material things no longer have a hold of me. My family and I are content with what we have been given.
But have no doubt and make no mistake. I still catch myself suffering from comparisons from time to time. When I stack myself up against 'her', I always lose. And by her, I mean any woman who the Enemy will use to sneak an attack of my identity.
If only I was as slender as her...
If only I enjoyed exercising as much as her...
If only I had as much time as her...
If only I was as gracious and kind and encouraging as her...
If only I was as creative as her...
If only I enjoyed cooking like her...
The if onlys. They get you in trouble everytime. And they make you realize how selfish you truly are. My gracious! When I get stuck in the rut of if-onlys, I can't seem to focus on anything but myself. And that is a horrible, selfish place to find yourself.
I do not find it ironic that the very subject my Beloved Beauties will discuss tonight is on this very topic. God is not a God of irony. He is God with a plan. A uniquely scripted plan for each person.
'How a woman thinks is often how she lives.'
Lysa TerKeurst, Unglued
May I be a woman who thinks less of herself and more of others. May I no longer compare myself to 'her'. And may I embrace the woman I was created to be. Just as I am.
'Make a careful exploration of who you are and
the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that.
Don't be impressed with yourself.
Don't compare yourself with others.
Each of you must take responsibility for doing
the creative best you can with your own life.'
Galatians 6:4-5 (MSG)
