I stay on auto-repeat until she is safe in dream land. In a voice so out-of-tune that I'm pretty certain a recording contract is not in my near future. Positively certain.
But I say it over and over and over again. Because I want the truth of it to sink down deep in her heart. And I want those words to breathe life in her soul.
Grace and redemption and mercy and love. I speak of His goodness and faithfulness. I speak out loud to Him in the car and during bathtime.
I tell her the amazingly, beautiful truth of His sacrifice. His perfect love. For her and for me.
And when she is old enough to understand, I will tell her how He transformed my life. How He turned my heart back to Him. How He rescued me from the pits of my own selfish desires and dreams. And how He drew me close to His side.
I'll tell her about fruit. Fruit that is so sweet and delicious. I'll help her water her own fruit so it grows abundantly.
But for now, I just tell her that Jesus loves her. I know this is true. Because the Bible told me so.
"Love God, your God, with your whole heart:
love him with all that's in you,
love him with all you've got!
Write these commandments that
I've given you today on your hearts.
Get them inside of you and
then get them inside your children.
Talk about them wherever you are,
sitting at home or walking in the street;
talk about them from the time
you get up in the morning
to when you fall into bed at night.
Tie them on your hands and
foreheads as a reminder;
inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes
and on your city gates. "
Deuteronomy 6: 5-9
I love this and the verse at the end! It makes me hunger for the Word of God and desire it for my children. Thanks so much for sharing today!
