This Little Light of Mine...

I sing this song to Sweet Petite while we rock in her room....while she is taking a bath...while I am dancing with her to calm her down...

I love this song.  Always have. 

But here recently I started thinking about the lyrics and wondering if people can see my light shining.  In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus called for us to be salt and light.  But what does that mean?

Salt is a seasoning.  It adds flavor to food.  Salt is also an important component in the preservation process.  To preserve means to maintain in safety from injury, harm or peril; to keep or maintain intact; to protect.  Huh?  Interesting stuff, right? 

When you think it about it that way, it makes perfect sense.  Jesus was calling us to protect others from evil by sharing the good news about Him.  And I believe to add a little flavor to their lives by teaching them the Truth.  In my opinion, a life devoid of Him would be really bland. 

He also called for us to be a light in this world.  We are to let our lights shine in the darkness so that others can see the path to Him.  This world is a dark, dreary place.  I praise Him for all the lights that shine around me, for it is those lights that allow me to see Him through the darkness.  I can only pray that others see my light and it points them to Jesus. 

So like the words that I sing to my daughter on a daily basis, I'm going to let my light shine all of Florence...and I won't let Satan blow it out....I'm going to let my light shine until Jesus comes...and I'm going to let it shine, let it shine, let it shine. 

"You are the salt of the earth.  But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?  It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.  You are the light of the world.  A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.  Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."  Matthew 5: 13-16




May you find some flavor in your life today.  May that flavor preserve and protect you.  May you let your light shine all around town so that others can see Him.  Be blessed!
