It's hard choosing the right New Year's resolution. Every single one of the things listed above are things that I strive to do on a daily basis as it is. I don't need a new year to tell me that I need to do some things differently.
And then I struggle with publicly sharing my New Year's resolution. I mean, let's face facts...I have failed miserably in the resolution department, for like the past 10 years or so. So sharing it publicly puts me at risk of failing publicly.
I've been pondering a resolution for 2012. I've been praying about it. I've been struggling with choosing something that I know I could stick to.
It wasn't until I read Angie Smith's blog that my resolution hit me square between the eyes.
Live a life that loves Him back.
I want my life to be a reflection of His goodness and fairness...of His perfect love. I want others to see Him through all of my actions and words and deeds. I want my innermost thoughts to be focused on Him. I want everything in my life to point to Him.
"Now set your heart and soul to look to the Lord your God."
~2 Chronicles 22:19
Simply stated, I want to live a life that loves Him back.
There. I shared publicly what I resolve to focus on in 2012. If you see me failing, you have my permission to point it out. After all, we are called to spur one another along in the direction of love and good works. Will you spur me along when I fail? Because I will fail. But failing doesn't mean that I don't love Him back. Failing means I get to keep striving towards the goal.
"I'm not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don't get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I've got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I'm off and running, and I'm not turning back."
~Philippians 3: 13-14
In 2012, I am going to live a life that loves Him back.
What about you? What are your New Year's resolutions? I'd love the opportunity to spur you along towards your goal.
