Remember that? When you tell someone to save the drama, you're in essence telling them to stop yappin' and complainin' about what's wrong with this and that.
I've never had a flair for the dramatics. Quite the opposite, actually. I tend to be a bit of people-pleaser. I do not like confrontation. I'd much rather everyone live in peace together. See in my world, the sun is always shining, the birds are always chirping, colorful rainbows encompass the blue sky and people are in perfect harmony.
Oh wait....that's pretty dramatic, right?
Life, as of late, has been dramatic. Lots of drama going on all around me. We joke about it at work. One of my friends, who also happens to be a co-worker, but she shall remain nameless, has been deemed the Drama Killa. We've even asked her to get a shirt made so she can sport it around the office.
I've given a lot of thought as to why we get so caught up in drama. Some people actually thrive off of it. I'm not one of those people, but I have been known, on occasion, to get wrapped up in it.
Drama is a distraction. A distraction that Satan uses to steal our gaze away from Jesus. Last night, as I was talking about some recent drama with a dear friend, I came upon the verse Galatians 5:15-17, which says, "If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want."
Here is what I have gleaned from this passage...we need to be careful what we say and how we handle the drama of life. Because life produces drama. Drama happens to everyone...yes, I admit it...my life is not without drama...but I choose to handle it a little bit differently. I choose, through the power of the Holy Spirit, to handle life with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Do I get it right all of the time? You better believe I don't! Sometimes I give in to the drama....but I strive for my life to bear fruit. The fruit of the Spirit.
God is faithful. He will use the drama of your life for His glory...if we allow Him.
Beth Moore, one of my all-time favorite Bible teachers, says, "People aren't looking for you to have it together. They're looking at what happens to you when you don't."
In essence, she is saying that people aren't expecting your life to be without drama, but they are looking to you as an example of how to handle the drama. I pray that people see me handling life according to Galatians 5:22-23. And if they don't, I pray they look at me and say...Save the drama!
